There’s nothing that excites us more than when a project we contributed to goes live, and such was the case today in Winnipeg.

After months of anticipation, Winnipeg’s Rapid Transitway opened today. Naturally, the big story had lots of media coverage, including a Winnipeg Free Press article which you can check out here.

The Carlson Group was thrilled to be part of this project and we look forward to bringing you more news about other work we are doing throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba.

To stay competitive in the hot market for apartments and condominiums in Winnipeg, call Carlson Commercial Services today. Continue reading →

A few weeks back we spoke in this space about how building owners should be calling Carlson Commercial Services for assistance with their property’s facade; this week we’re going to focus on what remains one of Winnipeg’s most competitive markets – housing.

It seems like a day doesn’t go by in this city that construction on a new apartment or condominium complex doesn’t commence. This isn’t surprising when you consider just how hot the housing market continues to be here, and that trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

For you as an apartment or condo property manager, this means one thing – increased competition. Even before a building is finished construction, there will be a number of eyes on it, looking with interest as the project grows from week to week.

As a result, getting those same eyes to look at the complex you manage can be difficult, especially if your building is starting to show its age. An exterior that has evidence of wear and tear is more likely to turn away anyone who could potentially look at your location as their next home. While you may have beautiful suites for rent or purchase, the curb appeal (or lack thereof) could cause people to shy away from investigating your building more closely.

If it’s been a few years since you’ve had any work done on your apartment or condo complex, give Carlson Commercial Services a call today. We can create a tailor-made building finishes performance specification for capital improvements and regular maintenance that meet environmental and occupational requirements.

To learn more, visit the Commercial Services portion of our website here or call us at 204-233-0671.

Carlson Engineered Composites has now installed a second robotic water cutting cell in their Winnipeg facility and their first in their US facility in St Cloud, MN.

The Winnipeg addition not only doubles the cutting capacity in Winnipeg, but, increases the accuracy and repeatability by a factor of 2 and allows to complete all programing to be completed from the Winnipeg facility.

Today, CECI has the ability to design, and build all the tools required, as well as all the programming required to operate the robotic cells.

This has been one of the most unusual winters in the history of Manitoba.

Whereas we’re used to snow piles and temperatures well below freezing, this winter felt more like a Prairie summer. You’d be hard-pressed to find a season that was this balmy.

Unfortunately, the warmer weather has had a bit of a side effect. Usually we would walk around this time of year and think to ourselves that, when such cold conditions have melted away, we’ll be able to clean things up a bit and make everything look new and fresh.

With less snow on the brain, however, you might already be thinking how you can make your business or office come alive even more than usual; and nothing says “new” like a fresh look to your location, and the best way to achieve this is with a commercial paint job from The Carlson Group.

When you work with Carlson, you have the comfort of knowing that you are dealing with an elite Winnipeg commercial painter. From oil finishes to staining and lacquering, Carlson can bring that pop back to your building. Plus, we can perform expert service on your exterior, giving it a deep cleanse that will make it stand out in your work area.

If this stroke of inspiration is hitting your mind, then give The Carlson Group a call today at 204-233-0671 or click here to learn more about our commercial services.

One of the most popular shows to emerge on U.S. cable television over the last couple years is History Channel’s “Pawn Stars”.

The series is based around a family-owned and operated pawnshop in Las Vegas and highlights both the unique and mundane items people bring into their shop to sell or pawn.

One of the most common themes in the show are relics from the 1800s or 1900s that people believe are valuable in their current state, which often translates to pieces missing or a rusted visage.

The message they deliver is clear and direct – in order for a piece to have the eye appeal to a collector, it has to look good. A 1930s Coca Cola machine might be of great value and collector interest, but if the rust on it is so bad that you can’t tell what it is on first glance, chances are you’re going to walk away.

The same message applies for your business. You might have the best product or service available in your industry, but if the exterior of your office has paint peeling off and rusted hardware, they may turn the other way.

If this sounds like the state of your building, then give us a call. Carlson Commercial Services can make your business’s exterior look better than new with our painting, drywalling and sandblasting techniques. We can also make your interior look professional with our expert work on your walls and ceilings.

We sit today, just over two weeks away from the annual turnover from one year to another. Naturally, this time of year is a time of reflection and, like never before, we have a lot to reflect on.

It’s definitely been quite the year, hasn’t it, Winnipeg? We’ve seen so many new improvements to our city. Look all around and there’s a feeling of freshness in the air. 2011 brought us at Carlson and the city of Winnipeg as a whole a variety of new and exciting opportunities.

As a company, Carlson is incredibly proud of the work we have done throughout Manitoba, including major projects like Wuskwatim and the Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor as well as the variety of commercial jobs we do on a regular basis here in Winnipeg and beyond city limits.

2012 looks to be just as promising as 2012 was. Obviously there is a lot still to look forward to, one that should equal the impact we felt in 2011. There are all new projects that lie ahead of us in the River City, some which have been announced and others that are still to come.

We thank you greatly for your business over the past 12 months and we look forward to speaking with you again early in the new year.

On behalf of our families and friends, we would like to wish you all the best this holiday season.

Winnipeg has been very fortunate to have many construction projects taking place in recent years, including the new terminal at our airport, the new Bombers stadium and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

One project that has really captured a lot of interest is the Osborne Underpass. This new construct is a major part of the forthcoming Rapid Transit Project that the city of Winnipeg has undertaken.

As part of the team working on the Osborne Underpass, Carlson has been proud of what has been accomplished. We will soon be updating our website with additional information on this exciting project, so stay tuned for more information.

Carlson was once again a sponsoring partner of the The University of Manitoba’s chapter of SAE International this past year.

Each year, Carlson has worked with the Formula Team, building molds from their patter, as well as a couple bodies for trials and final usage.

“We encourage the Formula Team to participate in all aspects of our work so that they gain some knowledge of the process,” explains Arnie Milne, VP Sales for Carlson Engineered Composites Inc.

The UMSAE is the largest student technical society on the U of M campus and the second largest of SAE International’s 108 chapters. Teams include Aero, Baja, Electric and Formula.

Earlier this fall, UMSAE dropped by Carlson to display their vehicles and meet with the entire Carlson crew.
